Sveaskog AB is a forestry company in Sweden and the country 's largest forest owner . The company, one of the largest forestry companies in Europe, is wholly owned by the Swedish state. In addition to supplying wood products , Sveaskog is also involved in marketing opportunities for hunting and fishing. Further business areas are trading in real estate and activities in tourism . Sveaskog operates various eco parks in Sweden .

history

Sveaskog was founded as an independent company in 1999. Forerunners were the two state-owned companies Domän AB and ASSI AB (Aktiebolaget Statens Skogsindustrie), which merged in 1994 to form AssiDomän . In the course of the sale of a quarter of AssiDomän's forest areas to Sveaskog in 1999, the Swedish government reduced its ownership of AssiDomän to 35 percent. Sveaskog bought the remaining 65 percent in 2001 and became Sweden's largest forest owner.

Holdings

Sveaskog's wholly owned subsidiaries are Svenska Skogsplantor, which cultivates plants and seeds, and Sveaskog Baltfor SIA, which is responsible for purchasing wood on the Baltic market. Sveaskog holds a 50 percent stake in the Setra Group sawmill operator . According to a resolution of the Swedish parliament , Sveaskog should not be a wood processing company, but only manage forests; The fact that the 50 percent share is not sold has therefore been criticized for years.
