Sven Sester , (born July 14, 1969 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ), is an Estonian politician and member of the Riigikogu (Estonian Parliament) for the conservative IRL party, Pro Patria ja Res Publica Liit . From April 9, 2015 to June 12, 2017, Sester was Minister of Finance of the Republic of Estonia .

Life and politics

After graduating from high school in 1987, he studied business and information technology at Tallinn University of Technology until 1993 .

From 1990 to 1991 he worked as a computer scientist at the Center for Public Opinion Research, then from 1991 to 1992 as a manager at the "Selected Daily Mail" and from 1992 to 1999 first as commercial director, then as director and finally as deputy chairman of ERI Real Estate GmbH. He then became CEO of Baltic Real Investments AG, the former ERI Real Estate GmbH. From 2003 to 2005 he also chaired the supervisory board of the Estonian Lotto. In addition, he has been a member of the board of Roosikrantsi Hotell GmbH since 2007.

Since 1999 he has been a member of the “Pro Patria ja Res Publica Liit” party. From 2002 to 2003 he was Deputy Chairman of the Finance Committee of Tallinn City Council. From 2003 to 2007 he was a member of parliament as deputy chairman of the economic committee and since 2009 he has worked first in the economic committee and later as chairman in the parliamentary finance committee. He is also a board member and board member of the Tallinn District of the IRL in his party.

Since April 9, 2015, Sven Sester was in the coalition government of Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas, Estonian Minister of Finance. He held the same office from November 23, 2016 to June 12, 2017 in the following cabinet of Prime Minister Jüri Ratas .

Private life

Sester is married and has four children.
