The Svendborgsund is a tributary of the great Beltes extending between the Danish island of Fyn and Thurø one hand and Tåsinge the other hand, then only north west of the belt from the direction in Svendborg and on the south coast of Fyn along in the Danish South extends. The islands of Kidholm and Iholm are in Svendborgsund . The towns of Svendborg on Fyn, Thurø By on Thurø, and Vindeby and Troense on Tåsinge are located by the sound .

To the east of Svendborg, Svendborgsund joins Skårupøre Sund , which separates Thurø from Fyn. To the west of Svendbord, the sound is spanned by the Svendborgsundbroen , which connects Fyn with Tåsinge and from there on over the Siødæmningen and Langelandsbroen to the island of Langeland .
