Svenskøya ( German  "Swedish Island" ) is the second largest island in the König-Karl-Land archipelago in the eastern part of Svalbard . The Norwegian island is around 20 km long in north-south direction, its coast is almost 59 km long and its area is 137 km². A ridge extends in the south from Kükenthalfjellet to the north to Dunérfjellet , at a height of 260 m above sea level. It is separated from the neighboring island of Kongsøya by the approximately 25 km wide Rivalensundet . Like all the islands in King Karl Land, Svenskøya is part of the Northeast Svalbard Nature Reserve . Svenskøya has the densest population of polar bears in all of Svalbard. Most of the island is made up of beach debris.

In 1908, six trappers overwintered on Svenskøya once . Since they could not be picked up in the summer of 1909 due to adverse ice conditions, they had to pull a rowboat across the ice - leaving their catch behind - until they reached open water.
