Svetomir Belic

Svetomir Belić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Светомир Белић ; born October 2, 1946 in Smederevo ) is a former Yugoslav amateur boxer of Serbian nationality. He became vice European light middleweight champion in 1971 and represented Yugoslavia at the 1972 Summer Olympics.

Boxing career

Belić boxed for Partizan Belgrade and was around 1.75 m tall during his competitive career. He was Yugoslav welterweight champion in 1968, and in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975 and 1976 Yugoslavian light middleweight champion. In addition, he won the Balkan Light Middleweight Championships in 1970 and 1971.

In June 1971 he won the silver medal in the light middleweight division at the 19th European Championships in Madrid . He defeated the Spaniard Moisés Fajardo (3: 2), the Bulgarian Krastyo Denchev (knockout) and the Poland Wiesław Rudkowski (knockout), before he was defeated in the final Valeri Tregubow from the Soviet Union (0: 5 ).

In 1972 he took part in the light middleweight division at the Summer Olympics in Munich , where he was defeated, however, in the preliminary round to Anthony Richardson, who started for the Netherlands, by a margin of 2: 3. Also at the 21st European Championships in 1975 in Katowice , he lost in the preliminary round against Viktor Savchenko from the Soviet Union (0: 5).
