Svilajnac ( Serbian - Cyrillic Свилајнац ) is a city in closer Serbia . The administrative seat of Opština Svilajnac is on the Resava .

The city belongs to the Pomoravlje administrative district and has about 9,400 inhabitants.

Svilajnac was first mentioned in Ottoman reports in 1467. The place then became known for its silk production, which is where its name comes from (Serbian Svila - German silk).

Svilajnac is the birthplace of Stevan Sinđelić , the leader of the first Serbian uprising against Ottoman rule in 1804. A statue in his honor stands in the center of the village.
