Swae

Swae and Swa are medium sized cymbals used in the music of Northern Thailand .

Swae is the smaller version with a diameter of about 15 cm. The swa are about 30 cm in diameter. Both versions are made of brass or an alloy of copper . They are held together by leather strips .

They are used in ensembles for temple ceremonies, as dance accompaniment in Buddhist processions and as an announcement of upcoming festivities such as Yi Peng , Songkran etc.
