Swamp Rock ( swamp rock ) describes a direction of rock music that comes from the southern states of the USA - especially from the swamps of Louisiana . Swamp rock is also known as Swamp Music . This music combines elements of country , blues , folk and Cajun music and fits into the category of American folk .

Because of its origins, Cajun French , which is common in Louisiana, is often used in the texts . If the geographical aspect is not to be emphasized, one also speaks of roots rock .

For example, while Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty used rock instrumentation, the Chenier family used the accordion as the leading instrument. Another well-known representative of Swamp Rock was Tony Joe White , whose song Polk Salad Annie was covered by Elvis Presley .
