The Sweat house of Legeelen ( Legeelan , Irish Log Fhaoileann ) in County Cavan in Ireland is an archaeological site. It consists of a tiny stone structure, in the form of a cantilever vault building made of dry masonry, which is known as teach allais or welding house (German rather sweat lodge , in the sense of sauna).

Sweathouses are usually difficult to recognize. The Sweat house von Legeelen is an exception. It is on the road to Moneycashel, about 3 miles south of Blacklion (in the far north of Cavan) clearly visible on a slope about 40 meters from the road behind some abandoned farm buildings.

There are also several duns in Moneygashel .

context

Irish sweathouses (only 16 are reasonably preserved) either continue a prehistoric tradition of inhaling mind-altering drugs or they functioned as saunas. The “ magic mushrooms ” occurring on the island are regarded as a means of expanding consciousness , these are mushrooms containing psilocybin such as the conical bald heads ( Psilocybe semilanceata ).
