Blacklion ( Irish An Blaic , formerly An Leargaidh ) is a village in the west of County Cavan in the Republic of Ireland . It is on the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland .

history

The village is located in the townland of Tuam (Irish: Tuaim - German  "Tumulus" ). A cairn , the Killinagh bullaun ( St Brigid's stone ), a stone chest and two ring forts (or cashels) within the townland are evidence of the early settlement. The ruins of the medieval Killesher Church are about 4 km southeast of Blacklion.

The site is mentioned in the Annals of the Four Masters in 1594 in connection with the siege of Enniskillen , County Fermanagh. The siege was carried out by the rebels under Aodh Mór Ó Néill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone . It marks the beginning of the Tyrone Rebellion ( Nine Years War (Ireland) ), which lasted until 1603.

The Boulder Tombs , the Portal Tombs and the Wedge Tombs in the townland of Burren and the Sweat house in Legeelen are nearby.
