The preserved portal tombs in the townland Burren ( Irish Boirinn ) of Cavan are located about four kilometers south of Blacklion in the Burren on the " Cavan Way " in County Cavan in Ireland . In Ireland and Great Britain, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two equally high, upright stones with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber that is covered with a sometimes huge capstone.

The Tomb portal

Location: 54 ° 15 ′ 50 ″  N , 7 ° 53 ′ 2 ″  W There are 12 Portal Tombs in Cavan, most of them in the Burren. The megalithic complex is located in an oval cairn with a diameter of around 20 by 16 meters and a height of two meters. The pair of portal stones is a little over a meter high and forms the 70 cm wide entrance. Two low side stones and an end stone delimit the rectangular, approximately two meters long and 70 cm wide chamber of the Portal Tomb . The two capstones of the small dolmen are almost completely covered with peat and heather. A fine urn is said to have been found in the chamber .

The Calf House

Location: 54 ° 15 ′ 53 ″  N , 7 ° 53 ′ 6 ″  W The second portal Tomb in the Burren "The Calf House", also known as "Druid's Altar" or "Druidical Altar", has collapsed. It is four kilometers south of Blacklion. The grave has two portal stones about two meters high and was walled up in the area between and used as a stable; therefore the name. The offset capstone measures around five by four meters and rests on one of the portal stones and the floor. The monument was integrated into a modern field wall.
