Swedes in America (alternative title: Ingrid Bergman Answers ) is an American short film by Irving Lerner . The documentary , shot in 1943 , was nominated for an Oscar in 1944 .

The short film consists of an interview with the Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman , who tells of the successful integration of Swedes in the United States. She portrays the Swedes as hard-working US citizens who have a large share in the wealth of the United States. She also talks about how the Swedes are trying to preserve their own northern European culture in the US. In the documentary, Bergman visits Swedish organizations and the American-Swedish Museum in Philadelphia .

The film was made as part of Irving Lerner's work for the United States Office of War Information . In addition to Sweden and the USA, the film was also well received in the UK . The British Ministry of Information requested 400 copies to show British citizens how hospitable the US was to migration .
The film was released in 1943 and was nominated for an Oscar in 1944, but received nothing at the award ceremony.
