The Sjamosero ( Russian Сямозеро , Finnish Säämäjärvi , Karelian Seämärvi ) is a freshwater lake in the Republic of Karelia in the northwestern part of Russia . The 265 to 270 km² lake is located between Lake Ladoga and Lake Onega in the southern part of Karelia. It has a maximum depth of about 24 m. There are a number of small islands in the lake. It is used for shipping and fishing. The Sjanga drains the lake to the Schuja , which then flows into Lake Onega .
Boat accident in 2016
Fourteen Moscow children drowned in a boat accident on Lake Sjamosero on June 18-19, 2016.
