Sydney Christian

Sydney Christian QC (* 1935 in Antigua and Barbuda ; † January 2017 there ) was a lawyer and politician of the Progressive Labor Movement from Antigua and Barbuda . From 1971 to 1976 he represented the constituency of St. John's City South in the House of Representatives for Antigua and Barbuda .

Life

Born the son of a lawyer, Christian studied law and was admitted to the bar in his home country in 1962. He began his political career in 1971 when the Progressive Labor Movement put him up for the general election as a candidate for the newly created constituency of St. John's City South. He was able to prevail against his competitors and was elected with 57.48% of the vote. In the general election in 1976 he ran again, but was defeated by the candidate of the Antigua Labor Party Christopher O'Mard . Against this he lost again in the 1980 general election .
