The Norwegian steam locomotive Sydvaranger was built in 1917 as a one-off by Hanomag in Hannover-Linden with the serial number 7604 for the Aktieselskabet Sydvaranger in Kirkenes for Sydvarangerbanen . It was used there on the so-called feed line.

NSB type 36a

The electrification of the supply route up to 1920 made the C-coupler superfluous and at the end of 1920 it was taken over by Norges Statsbaner (NSB), the state railway company in Norway, by purchasing it into their inventory.

When it was integrated into the NSB numbering plan, the locomotive was assigned to the NSB Type 36a series and given the serial number 410. The locomotive was first used in the Narvik area , and on November 15, 1948, it was delivered to the Oslo district . Locomotive 36a 491 was decommissioned on November 10, 1954 and scrapped.
