Dieter Kind (born October 5, 1929 in Reichenberg , Czechoslovakia ; † June 10, 2018 in Braunschweig ) was a German electrical engineer. He was president of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB).

Career

Kind studied electrical engineering at the TH Berlin and the Technical University of Munich and received his doctorate in 1957 in Munich in high-voltage engineering (the surface area when technical electrode arrangements are exposed to shock loads in the air ). After working in industry at Messwandler-Bau (MWB) in Bamberg, where he developed test transformers, among other things, he was Professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig as successor to Erwin Otto Marx from 1962 and President of PTB from 1975 to 1995 as the first engineer. The reorganization of the metrological services after reunification also fell during his term of office . He was an honorary professor at the TH Braunschweig .

From 1984 to 1996 he was President of the International Committee for Weights and Measures ( Comité International des Poids et Mesures ). He was a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences , the German Physical Society and the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) . In 1978 he became a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for the development of test and measurement procedures for high voltage engineering . He received the ring of honor from the Association of Electrical, Electronics and Information Technology in 1988 and the Liebieg Medal from the Reichenberg home district in Augsburg , was an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Munich and was awarded the Ritter von Gerstner Medal .

Some of his books have been translated into English.
