Sylvia Greenberg
Sylvia Greenberg (* 1955 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian-Israeli opera singer ( coloratura soprano ) and professor of singing at the Munich University of Music and Theater .
Life
Greenberg's parents belonged to the Jewish minority in Romania. In Romania she also began studying the cello. In 1964 she went to Israel with her family and continued her studies there.
Sylvia Greenberg began her singing career only after completing her training as a cellist ; her debut as a singer took place in a concert of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta . Her first permanent engagement was at the Zurich Opera, where she sang high coloratura such as Zerbinetta in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos or the “Queen of the Night” in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte . This role quickly became Sylvia Greenberg's trademark and in the following years she made guest appearances as the star-flaming queen in Glyndebourne, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne, Frankfurt, Vienna and Paris.
