The Symes nunatak is a nunatak in the north of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises 18 km southeast of Mount Staley in the middle of the Evans firn field .
The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1983 after J. Symes, geological assistant to a field research team who worked in the area between 1974 and 1975 as part of the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program .
