The synagogue in Čkyně (German Kieselhof ), a community in Okres Prachatice in the Czech Republic in Jihočeský kraj ( South Bohemian Region ), was built in 1828. The synagogue has been a protected architectural monument since 1992 .

history

The neo-classical synagogue only served as a place of worship until World War I , as the Jewish community lost most of its members due to emigration at the end of the 19th century . The building was then used by a craftsman for a long time.

Despite the long misuse of the building, remains of the wall painting from the time it was built and the Torah shrine still exist.

After the community bought the building in 1990, efforts are made to preserve the synagogue and use it as a museum or for cultural events. The interior renovation is almost complete, with the women's gallery being reinstalled .
