Information and memorial plaques at the former location of the synagogue (2019)

The synagogue in Bad Godesberg (until 1925 Godesberg ), a modern district of Bonn , was built in 1849-50 and 1938, destroyed by the Nazis. It was located on Oststrasse (until 1892 Synagogengasse ) in the center of Godesberg .

Individual Jewish families can be identified in Godesberg since the 17th century. A prayer room in a private house had been used by the Jewish community since 1812 at the latest , before their own simple synagogue building was built in what was then Judengasse in 1849/50. The property for its construction was donated by Abraham Leudesdorf, a Jewish butcher and later member of the Godesberg municipal council. The synagogue was inaugurated in August 1850. It was a single-storey building with a gable roof , a 42 m² interior with 90 seats and a women's gallery , an anteroom with the entrance on the west and an extension for the Torah shrine on the East side and protruded in a closely built-up area over the (later determined) line of flight. In 1885 the synagogue community submitted an application for the installation of a chimney, and in 1902 they received a building permit for an enclosure of the property , which was partially provided with iron bars .

In the course of the November pogroms in 1938 , the synagogue was destroyed by arson on the afternoon of November 10, and the remains were removed in 1939. Since September 4, 1985, on the south side of Oststraße, attached to the rear wall of the property at Koblenzer Straße 23, a memorial plaque has been commemorating the former synagogue. Only a few views and drawings of the building have survived; Its former location (former address: Oststraße 7) is in the rear area of today's property at Koblenzer Straße 19-21.
