Former synagogue in Jevíčko

The synagogue in Jevíčko (German Gewitsch ), a town in Okres Svitavy in the Czech Republic , was built from 1792 to 1794. The secular synagogue on Soudní Street has been a protected cultural monument since 1993 .

In 1747 the previous wooden building was destroyed by fire. It took a long time before the Jewish community could build a new synagogue. The building in the classicism style is said to have been created with stones from the demolished parish church. In 1907 the building was rebuilt in Art Nouveau style.

The synagogue building has been used by the Czech Protestant Church since the early 1950s . Today it serves as a concert hall and exhibition space.
