Synagogue (Oberwesel)
The synagogue in Oberwesel , a town in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1886. The profaned synagogue is at Schaarplatz 3.
history
The previous building burned down on August 16, 1885, and was replaced by a new building by master mason Joseph Kipper. The inauguration took place on October 20, 1886. The three-storey brick building in the historicism style had a women's gallery .
time of the nationalsocialism
The interior of the synagogue was destroyed during the November pogrom in 1938 . The rubble of the facility, the ritual objects and the Torah scrolls were thrown into the Oberbach . In 1940 the synagogue building came into the possession of the city of Oberwesel.
Todays use
In 1957 the synagogue building was rebuilt and served as a police station until 1974. After the sale to a private person, the building was converted into a residential building by the new owner.
