Synagogue (Petershagen)
The profaned synagogue is a listed building on Goebenstrasse in Petershagen in the Minden-Lübbecke district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The four-axis eaves hall was built in brick in 1845/46 under the direction of building manager Wendt . The previous building, a half-timbered building from 1796, had become dilapidated. The building was devastated during the Reichspogromnacht on November 10, 1938 and the interior was destroyed. The building was extensively restored between 1984 and 2001.
The facade above a high sandstone base is structured by pilaster strips and a tooth-cut frieze. The cast iron windows are decorated with etched white and colored glass. The roof structure is open, the floor is tiled. Parts of the original ceiling and wall paintings are present.
The hall was originally accessible via a school building attached to the west, an eaves half-timbered building from the end of the 18th century, which was restored in 2009/10. It contains a classroom and the teacher's living room. The mikveh was exposed in 2008. The former synagogue is used today as an information and documentation center on local and regional Jewish history.
