The synagogue in Bechyně (German Bechin , also Beching ), a town in Jihočeský kraj (South Bohemian Region) in the Czech Republic , was built in 1827.

history

Jews have been recorded in Bechyně since the end of the 16th century. The Jewish community flourished in the 19th century when it had a membership of around 140 people.

In 1827 a neo-Romanesque synagogue was built on Široká Street. During the Second World War, the German occupiers murdered all of the city's Jewish residents who were still living there.

The building of the former synagogue has been used as the Muzeum turistiky (tourism museum) since 2006 .
