The former synagogue in Blomberg

The former synagogue in Blomberg , a town in East Westphalia-Lippe ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), was built in 1808 and is located in Transylvania 1a. The building has been a listed building since 1983 .

history

The synagogue in Blomberg was built in 1808 and has not been used for church services since around 1912 . In 1937 it was sold by the Jewish community of Blomberg to a saddler who used it as a workshop and warehouse. This sale saved the building from being destroyed in the November pogrom in 1938 . In 1992 the city of Blomberg bought the former synagogue and after extensive renovation work it is now home to the Blomberg city archive.

architecture

In the half-timbered house, the Torah shrine is still present on the eastern eaves wall . The vaulted ceiling of the prayer room was restored and the women's gallery was given a new railing. A staircase was added in order to change the interior of the building as little as possible.
