The synagogue in Budweis ( České Budějovice in Czech ), the largest city in South Bohemia , was built in 1887/88. The synagogue was located on the Krumlau dike.

The synagogue building, which is very similar to a Gothic church, was built according to plans by the Viennese architect Max Fleischer . In 1898 an organ was installed in the synagogue.

The synagogue was blown up by the German occupiers in June 1942 on the instructions of the then city protector Friedrich David.

A Holocaust memorial has been on the synagogue site since 1992 .
