Commemoration

Memorial stone from 1995

Reinhard Schindler, the former Glatzer, developed the idea of having a memorial stone set for the synagogue. The memorial stone with a bronze plaque erected in 1995 commemorates the destroyed synagogue in Polish, Hebrew and German. The inscription reads: "Here stood the Glatzer Synagogue, desecrated and burned by the National Socialists in the pogrom night of November 9, 1938. Former German and current Polish citizens 1995 - 50 years after the end of the war".

sculpture

In 2015/16 the German sculptor Gerhard Roese created an approx. 100 kg heavy sculpture of the synagogue made of cast aluminum in Darmstadt . The collected materials, plans and sketches, together with photos and a description of the burning of the building, he published as a book under the title: Decalogue on Fire . The artistic work under the same title includes, in addition to the sculpture of the synagogue, a sculpture after one of the 10 commandments sneezes above the portal and a sculpture of one of the cast-iron gallery pillars in her bed made of "rubble and ashes" that was overturned during the fire. In addition, fifteen 1 × 1 m picture panels based on photos by Günter Veit and a shrine with a fragment of a Torah scroll probably stolen in Poland by a member of the Wehrmacht. In May 2018 Roese brought the entire work to Kłodzko with the help of a group of young people and donated it to the city. The sculpture and other materials from Roese's exhibition were also exhibited in 2018 as part of the Topography of Terror project in Berlin and published in a catalog.

On the eve of the “Reichspogromnacht”, on November 8, 2018, the city's museum in Kłodzko, together with the Polish activists and the sculptor from Darmstadt, organized an event to commemorate the terror 80 years ago and the Jewish community at the time Synagoga reviva off.

Students from different schools from Kłodzko and a group of adults took part. They learned what is known today about the building and its destruction, as well as some information from two surviving women, Ruth Prager and Shoshana Efrati, who had visited this synagogue with their parents.

After a small concert with Yiddish and Hebrew songs, people went to the memorial stone and lit candles.
