Gerhard Roese
Gerhard Roese (born February 14, 1962 in Darmstadt , grew up in Stuttgart and Worms ) is a German sculptor , art historian and architecture model maker . He became internationally known in connection with the clarification of the system of sexual abuse at the Odenwald School .
Life
From 1975 to 1982 pupil at the Odenwald School . After graduating from high school in 1982 with a qualification as a chemical-technical assistant at the Bergstrasse District Chamber of Commerce and Industry , Roese studied sculpture under Hiromi Akiyama at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe from 1984 to 1989 . From 2001 to 2003 he went on to study art history , classical archeology , Christian archeology and Byzantine art history at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz .
The first studio was in the former Friedrichstal train station (Stutensee) near Karlsruhe. Large-format sculptures were created there from welded aluminum sheets, none of which have survived due to their sometimes enormous dimensions and weight. These works still have a formal similarity to Akiyama's strict formal language , but they are already based on an objective concept.
After moving to Darmstadt , he was given a studio from 1989 to 2009 in a former barrack classroom at the Georg Büchner School . Roese mainly created steel and concrete sculptures here. They too were strict in their formal language and reported with clear surfaces and precise lines of future remnants of our present-day civilization.
After 2004, Roese completely reinvented his sculptural work in the form of what he called "layer sculpture". Here, the objects themselves are no longer shown, but sculpturally shaped reconstruction hints - mostly as negatives of the omitted objects - are given. In these sculptures, the objects arise again in the imagination of the viewer.
Gerhard Roese has been working in the Darmstadt studio house since 2009.
Roese is known for his sculptures, portrait busts and architectural models in the metal casting process , the necessary technology was developed in cooperation with the company Glassl Metallgießerei in Michelstadt.
