Adass Jisroel Synagogue (Nuremberg)
The Adass Jisroel synagogue in Nuremberg , a city in northern Bavaria , was built in 1901/02. The synagogue , which was destroyed during the so-called Reichskristallnacht in 1938, stood at Essenweinstrasse 7.
history
Due to the increasing number of visitors to church services, the prayer room of the Adass Yisroel Association had become too small. In October 1900, a plot of land for the new synagogue was bought in Essenweinstrasse. The Nuremberg architects Ochsenmayer & Wissmüller produced the construction plans for a representative community center. For the three-storey stone construction with mansard roof are mainly neo-Romanesque and the Maßwerkbrüstungen also neogothic been used styles. The synagogue was inaugurated on September 5, 1902.
destruction
The synagogue was desecrated and destroyed during the November pogrom in 1938 . SA men smashed the interior, moving parts were thrown into a heap in the area of the Bima and set on fire . The local fire brigade, which was also actively involved in the arson, protected the adjacent houses with water fountains.
