Bornheim Synagogue (Rhineland)
The synagogue in Bornheim , a town in the Rhein-Sieg district in the south of North Rhine-Westphalia , was built in 1866. The synagogue was located at Königstrasse 55.
The new synagogue was built according to plans by the Bonn city architect Paul Richard Thomann (1827–1873). A Star of David was enthroned on the top of the gable of the brick building .
time of the nationalsocialism
On the evening of November 10, 1938 , SS men coming from outside set the synagogue on fire. The ruin was then torn down. The synagogue property was acquired by the municipality two months later. During the Second World War there was an air raid shelter on the site ; today there is a commercial building here.
Commemoration
In 1986 a memorial plaque was placed at the synagogue site.
