The Synchysis scintillans - as Spintheropie , "Funk See" or in the slit lamp examination called "Danziger Goldwasser" - is an eye disease that in deposits of cholesterol crystals in the vitreous of the human eye occurs.

The amino acids leucine and tyrosine as well as calcium phosphate (calcium phosphate) can also form crystals in the vitreous humor and lead to this rare, usually unilateral disease that can be mistaken for asteroid hyalosis . The symptoms sometimes arise after vitreous bleeding or inflammation , but often no cause can be determined.
