System Center Data Protection Manager

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

System Center Data Protection Manager (SCDPM) is a software product from Microsoft that enables near-continuous data protection and data recovery in a Microsoft Windows environment.

It is part of the Microsoft System Center product family and is Microsoft's first entry into continuous data protection and data recovery. It uses shadow copy technology for continuous backups .

Data Protection Manager provides centralized backup of branch offices and within the data center by backing up changed files almost continuously at the byte level to a secondary storage medium , which is then backed up to tape. This enables quick and reliable recovery from an easily accessible storage medium such as a hard drive instead of waiting to locate and mount tapes.

Data Protection Manager 2006 was released on September 27, 2005 by Storage Decisions in New York .

The current version, System Center Data Protection Manager (SCDPM) 2019, supports the backup of Windows file servers, Exchange Server , Microsoft SQL Server , SharePoint and Microsoft Virtual Server . In addition, SCDPM enables what is known as bare metal recovery.
