System X is a general research supercomputer located at Virginia Tech University in the United States. Formerly also known as Terascale Cluster or Big Mac (because of its components from PowerMacs ).

The computer originally (at the beginning of 2004) consisted of 1100 Apple PowerMac PowerPC 970 G5 Dual 2.0 GHz computers , achieved a computing power of around 10  teraflops and jumped straight to third place on the TOP500 list of supercomputers from November 2003.

A few months later, after negotiations with Apple, the Terascale cluster was replaced by the 1100 Xserve PowerPC 970FX G5 Dual 2.3 GHz . It now achieved around 12.25 TeraFLOPS in a benchmark and reached seventh place in November 2004, and in June 2007 it was 71st on the TOP500 list.
