System of license plates (France)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
French license plate on the rear with the logo for the region and the department (here: 67 = department Bas-Rhin and region Alsace ).

With the French license plates introduced on July 1, 2004 for mopeds and on April 15, 2009 for all other vehicles, the affiliation to a certain department is only indicated on the right of the license plate. It no longer plays a role for the letter / number combination on the license plate. Nevertheless, a system of license plates can be recognized. Depending on which category (general series, mopeds) a vehicle belongs to, you can determine when the respective license plates were assigned. The letter assignments help to determine the year of registration. The information in this article is quite extensive. Basic information, in which the most important information about the license plates of France is listed in a shortened form , can be found in the leading article License plates of France .

Combinations

The type of arrangement of letters and numbers on French license plates is assigned according to certain regulations:

The license plates for mopeds consist of one or two letters on the left, two or three digits in the middle and a letter on the right of the plate.

The codes of the general approval series consist of two letters on the left, a hyphen, three digits in the middle - if necessary always with leading zeros -, a further hyphen and two letters on the right.

The identifier for dealers consists of the letter `` W '' on the left, a hyphen, three digits in the middle - if necessary, always with leading zeros -, another hyphen and two letters on the right.

The short-term indicators consist of the letter pair `` WW '' on the left, a hyphen, three digits in the middle - if necessary, always with leading zeros -, another hyphen and two letters on the right.
