Sysykoll

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sysykoll ( Sy nchrones Sy stem from Koll ektivsymbolen ) is one of the literary scholar Jürgen link within the developed by him collective symbol theory embossed discourse theoretical concept.

term

The Sysykoll is based on the so-called collective symbols , cultural stereotypes , which together encompass the entirety of the picture elements - the "imagery" - of a culture . They result in various image fields that exist side by side (e.g. forest, military, house, balloon, car, football, fortress), which combine to form a superordinate system, a "processing set of rules", the Sysykoll, from which in turn emerges Allow chains of argument and narratives to be derived and thus hold together the overall social discourse . Correspondingly, Link describes the Sysykoll as “the cement of society” and “symbolic [s] meaning formation grid”. Organized in Sysykoll, the collective symbols thus provide “the picture that we make of social reality”.

function

The central design means of the collective symbolism and thus of the Sysykoll are breaks in the picture ( catachreses ). "These work in such a way that they establish connections between statements and areas of experience, bridge contradictions, generate plausibility , etc." The collective symbols linked by catachresis, in Jäger's words, stretch "like a network over the discourses" and give them "extraordinary strength" . Since the collective symbol works beyond the boundaries of special discourses, the Sysykoll is also, according to Link, “a supporting element of the inter-discourse” and thus a “supporting element of culture”.

meaning

Siegfried Jäger recognizes in the Sysykoll an " interpretation and interpretation grid for social reality ". It is learned and applied collectively and thus decisively shapes the view of both individual subjects and entire populations on society. The Sysykoll has great weight for the formation of individual judgments, for the consolidation of “knowledge” and for the actions derived from it.
