Témiscouata Railway

The Témiscouata Railway was a railway company in Canada . It was founded on October 17, 1885 and built a standard-gauge railway line from Rivière-du-Loup in the province of Québec along the Madawaska River to Edmundston on the Saint John River . It was opened on October 1, 1891. Shortly thereafter, the route was extended along the Saint John River to Connors . The route had a total length of 182 kilometers.

The company planned to build a line from Edmundston across New Brunswick to Moncton , which was later realized by the Canadian government as part of the National Transcontinental Railway (NTR). In 1929, the section from Edmundston East to Baker Brook was shut down because the NTR line, which had since been incorporated into the Canadian National Railways (CNR), ran parallel and had significantly better track and superstructure quality. At the same time, CNR took over the management of the Témiscouata. The final merger did not take place until December 1949. By 1990 the entire line was closed.
