Túnel da Conceição

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Túnel da Conceição is a road tunnel in the center of the Brazilian metropolis of Porto Alegre ( Rio Grande do Sul ). It was inaugurated in 1972 and connects the Avenida Oswaldo Aranha with the Avenida Presidente Castelo Branco over a length of 400 meters.

It consists of two sections with a length of 150 meters and 250 meters. The underground carriageway has four lanes, each 3.5 meters wide, and an above-ground carriageway for both directions of traffic. Thanks to the tunnel with a height of 4.3 meters, inner-city traffic in particular is relieved of bus traffic.

In 2010, renovation work began with a view to the 2014 World Cup.
