The Turkish Mountaineering Association Turkish Türkiye Dağcılık Federasyonu ( TDF ) was founded in 1936. The founder and first president was Latif Osman Çıkıgil. The mountain and winter sports association and the mountain and ski association were separated on July 21, 1966. The Turkish Mountaineering Association Türkiye Dağcılık Federasyonu was founded in 1966 , the founder was İsmet Ülker. The first president was Latif Osman Çıkıgil.

The TDF has been a UIAA member since 1967 , as well as a member of the Balkan Mountaineering Union (BMU).
