Turkish gambit

Turkish Gambit is the second Fandorin - novel by Boris Akunin . The title of the novel is based on the Gambit , an opening in chess.

The novel is told from the point of view of the young Russian Warja Suworowa, who traveled to Bulgaria after her fiancé in 1877 after volunteering for the Russo-Ottoman War . When she receives unexpected help from Fandorin in a difficult situation, she arrives with him on the Russian front during the siege of Plevna . The novel describes the unsuccessful attacks on the city, while Fandorin and Suvorova are entrusted with secret service tasks. They finally uncover a ruse that thwarted the attempt of the Turkish troops to escape from Plevna. This turns the war in favor of Russia, but Fandorin realizes at the last second that a Turkish spy is planning another ruse that would have mobilized the European powers against Russia. When Fandorin discovers the plan, the spy hides and waits for reinforcements, who are defeated by the Russians.
