Tōhoku Gakuin University

The Tōhoku Gakuin University ( Japanese 東北 学院 大学 , Tōhoku gakuin daigaku ) is a private university in Japan . The main campus is in Tsuchitoi, Aoba-ku , Sendai , Miyagi Prefecture . Her motto is "Life, Light, Love".

In 1886 the Sendai Theological Seminary ( 仙台 神 学校 , Sendai shingakkō ) was founded. The founders were Oshikawa Masayoshi ( 押 川 方 義 , 1852-1928), one of the first Japanese Protestants, and William E. Hoy (1858-1927), an American missionary of the Reformed Church .

In 1891 the school set up a department for non-Christian learners and named itself Tōhoku-Gakuin ( 東北 学院 , dt. "The Academy Tōhoku "). In 1904 its technical school department became a legal technical school. In 1925 she moved to today's Tsuchitoi campus. In 1946 it was renamed the Tōhoku Gakuin Technical School ( 東北 学院 専 門 学校 , Tōhoku gakuin semmon gakkō ). It had two departments: English literature and economics.

In 1949 it developed into Tōhoku Gakuin University. In 1962 she founded the Faculty of Engineering in the new Tagajō campus. In 1989 she founded the Faculty of Liberal Arts on the Izumi campus.
