T34 (Paralympics)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

T34 and F34 are starting classes of Paralympic sports for athletes in athletics . Affiliations of athletes to the two starting classes are outlined as follows:

"Impairment of coordination (hypertension, ataxia and athetosis). Moderate to severe degree of paralysis in the lower extremities. Good function and minimal damage to the arms and torso. The athlete can walk short distances, but is dependent on a wheelchair when exercising. "

The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition . Track and field athletes in classes T33 - T38 and F31 - F38 belong to the "coordination impairments ( hypertension , ataxia , athetosis , cerebral palsy , stroke , traumatic brain injury and equals)" . Low class numbers indicate a higher level of impairment than high class numbers. Athletes with class numbers 31–34 start sitting (wheelchair), athletes with class numbers 35–38 standing.
