TANG- The African Network of Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The African Network of Germany eV, TANG represents the interests of people of African origin and African associations in Germany. TANG was created as part of the first “Africa in Germany” matinee on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Organization for African Unity , which took place on May 24, 2013 in Bellevue Palace at the invitation of Federal President Joachim Gauck . As the umbrella organization of African actors in Germany, the association sees itself as the voice of around 80,000 people of African origin in Germany, who come from all 54 African countries.

In addition, TANG is involved in its own projects with funding and in cooperation with various federal ministries in the areas of integration work and development policy. As part of the structural funding funded by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, members were acquired in all federal states in 2018 in order to further strengthen the voice of African actors in Germany.

Projects

Structural funding from TANG

The Federal Ministry of the Interior promotes migrant organizations with so-called structural funding in order to win them over as competent cooperation partners. Since the end of 2017, TANG has been supported in expanding its own structures and becoming more professional. Part of this project is also to increase the visibility of TANG and its members in a nationwide context.

In return, TANG undertakes to act as a contact for municipalities, states and the federal government. For this purpose, state boards were established in each federal state in 2018. In the course of the structural funding, new African associations and actors are to be gained in each federal state.

Lost dreams - Lost dreams - Rèves perdus

The project Verlorene Träume - Lost dreams - Rèves Perdus is a film project to prevent illegal migration. Hundreds of people die every year crossing the Sahara and the Mediterranean. In order to end this dilemma, many short films were made in the first phase of the project, which were presented on national television and in various awareness campaigns in the second and third phases of the project. So far, several thousand people in Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Niger, Senegal and Nigeria have been reached. The project is financed by the Federal Foreign Office.

Shaping diversity!

The project "Shaping Diversity!" Took place in 2017 for the third time. As part of the project, four multiplier training courses take place every year. Participation varies from seminar to seminar. From journalists to members of the migrant advisory council and migrant association to people who work with refugees. The focus of the seminars is the networking of the participants with each other in order to ensure an improvement in the activity of the respective area. Another goal is to improve the intercultural competence of the participants. The project is funded by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.

People strengthen people

As part of the sponsorship project, sponsorships between refugees and locals have been concluded since 2016. The sponsorships that are concluded between refugees and citizens contribute enormously to the successful integration of the refugees. The project can also counteract prejudices. A total of almost 500 sponsorships have already been concluded. There are various offers within the project: a sewing workshop, a bicycle workshop for refugees and sponsors, as well as student assistance and a computer course that offers assistance to students of all ages. These offers reached over 600 people in 2017. The project is supported by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth .

Where I sing is my home!

The project “Where I sing is my home!” Aims to stimulate intercultural exchange through singing and thus to ensure better cooperation. The offer is aimed at students with and without a migration background. 115 students participated in the eight to ten workshops. The first phase of the project was concluded with a school concert in the three participating schools. In the second phase, student sponsors were called in, who acted as mentors. In the third phase, parents and teachers should also be involved, so that the end of the project should be cross-generational and culture-independent and end in a singing city. The project is financed by the Federal Ministry of the Interior .

Low-threshold German courses for women

The Federal Ministry of the Interior has been supporting TANG low-threshold courses for women since 2016. This range of courses was aimed primarily at women who were previously unable to take part in an integration or language course for various reasons. Particular attention is paid to real-life practical relevance. The course is geared towards the needs and living environment of women. The focus is also on accessibility for all women, so that both women with and without knowledge can participate. In 2017/2018, the project reached a total of almost 80 women.

Federal voluntary service with reference to refugees

The special program "Federal Volunteer Service with Refugee Reference" has been running since 2015, funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth to support the integration of refugees. In 2016 and 2017, TANG deployed 23 federal volunteers in Hamburg, Berlin, Dortmund, Freiburg, Heidelberg and Esslingen as part of the project.
