Rosemary Lassig , married Lluka , (born August 10, 1941 in Bundaberg ; died November 1, 2017 in Sydney ) was an Australian swimmer who was particularly successful in the breaststroke .

life and career

Lassig grew up as the daughter of Fred and Linda Lassig in Bundaberg, Queensland , where she started swimming at the age of 8 as it should help with her asthma . Under her trainer Tom McIntyre, she quickly advanced to the top of the world in the 100 and 200 meter chest. She was able to recover from a serious injury with several broken bones that she sustained in a traffic accident in 1958. From 1958 to 1960 she was unbeaten at Australian Championships in these disciplines. In January 1960 she set a new world record over 110 yards chest in Sydney .

At the Olympic Summer Games in Rome in 1960 , she was part of the Australian 4 x 100 meter individual medley relay. Together with her teammates Dawn Fraser , Jan Andrew and Marilyn Wilson , she won the silver medal in a time of 4: 45.9 minutes behind the relay from the USA. Lassing also competed in the individual competition over 200 meters chest, but did not get beyond the preliminary round there. Her favorite discipline, the 100 meter chest, was only included in the Olympic program four years later.

After her career, Lassig lived in Sydney. At the 2000 Summer Olympics that took place there , she was used as a torchbearer . She died in November 2017 of complications from Alzheimer's disease .
