As a magazine files , even magazine collector , standing folder for unpunched be records and collecting magazines , brochures and catalogs referred etc. They are used for the standing storage of the collected material, with several standing files usually being stored side by side (so-called lateral standing storage ). They are mostly designed for the storage of groupage up to A4 / C4 format , so that, for example, folders (with loose documents) or oversized magazines etc. still fit in. They are made of cardboard , strong cardboard or plastic , and occasionally thin plywood and rarely metal . So-called archive magazine files are usually made from cheaper corrugated cardboard and in particularly compact dimensions.

In terms of shape and size, they are similar to conventional file folders . This applies in particular to the “high visible side” of magazine files - the visible front side of magazine files lined up or placed on shelves - which corresponds to the back of files. As with these, the high visible side is often equipped with a grip hole in the lower area and a labeling field above, alternatively a label can be stuck on or a label ("back label") inserted into a frame or a transparent cover. In contrast to file folders, however, the two long sides of magazine files are sloped towards the rear and the rear is closed in the resulting remaining height in order to be able to insert the collected items more easily and to prevent them from falling out.

There are also models in which the partially high "rear" front side is also or only this is designed as a "visible side". Such magazine files or such a storage and arrangement form are mainly used for the collection of specialist journals and other magazines, etc., the usual back lettering can be read at least partially and which can be removed from the front of the magazine. Often for such storage purposes, the partially high front side is also or exclusively equipped with a grip hole and / or labeling option.

Magazine files are part of the product range of various manufacturers of office and archive material and are sold directly or through specialist and retail stores . They are available in office supply and stationery stores and in department stores, as well as often found in the stationery and office supply departments of large supermarkets, drugstores and hypermarkets.
