The Teac KK ( Jap. ティアック株式会社 , Tiakku Kabushiki-gaisha , Eng. TEAC Corporation ) is an international electronics company with headquarters in Tama (Tokyo) . The company's European headquarters are in Wiesbaden .

history

Teac was formed in 1964 from a joint venture between the Tokyo Television Acoustic Company (founded in 1953) and the Tokyo Electro Acoustic Company (founded in 1956). Since 1964, Teac has been used as a name rather than an abbreviation. The full long form is not used in the company or in other documents.

On January 20, 2012, Teac entered into a strategic alliance with Onkyo . Teac and Onkyo have mutually acquired shares in the respective company and share production facilities, logistics centers and resources in the field of research and development. In August 2012, sales of the products for private users in Europe were transferred to Onkyo Europe based in Gröbenzell ; the distribution of professional products, including those of the Tascam brand, will continue to be carried out by Teac Europe in Wiesbaden .

In April 2013 the American Gibson Guitar Corporation announced that it would take over the majority of the Teac shares, which are previously held by the investor Phoenix Capital . This project was supported by the Teac management.

Tascam (Teac Audio Systems Corporation Of America) emerged from the American branch of the Teac HiFi division in 1971 as a separate brand for recording and sound studio technology .
