The TE T5 is a two - axle standard gauge electric multiple unit of the Trossinger Eisenbahn (TE) for its route from Trossingen train station to Trossingen city .

The railcar was procured in 1956 and was intended for freight and passenger traffic. The vehicle is a museum vehicle at the Freundeskreis der Trossinger Eisenbahn e. V. exists and is used for special trips.

history

The vehicle was supposed to replace the railcars T1 and T2 in scheduled operation. It offered just as many seats and better travel comfort. At the same time as the car was put into service, the paintwork of the vehicles was changed to the city colors blue / yellow. When a second new railcar was procured a few years later, one of the first design railcar could be retired and the second used for labor service. The T5 could carry 30 tonnes on the ascent and 80 tonnes on the descent.

After 30 years of continuous use, the railcar was completely overhauled at Waggonfabrik Rastatt , with more comfortable seats and better lighting installed. It was then used as planned until 2003 and then became a museum vehicle. It is the youngest museum vehicle on the Trossingen Railway.

construction

The Maschinenfabrik Esslingen (ME) introduced the mechanical and the Siemens-Schuckert (SSW) the electrical part of her. Like all TE vehicles, it was designed as a luggage railcar. The capacity is 30 seats, and there are more folding seats in the luggage compartment. Originally they were plastic seats, during the overhaul they were covered with fabric. The wide doors, which were manufactured as external sliding doors, are particularly user-friendly.
