The TIFF Bell Lightbox & Festival Tower is a cultural center and tall residential building in Toronto , Ontario , Canada . The building is located at the intersection of King Street and John Street and was completed in 2010. The building consists of a podium in which there is a large cinema with five halls and offices as well as a high residential building. The building is the headquarters of the Toronto International Film Festival. The annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) takes place in the building.
TIFF podium
The podium is a five-story complex in which u. a. TIFF offices, a five-hall cinema, a three-story atrium, two galleries, a learning center for schoolchildren and students, cafes, restaurants, a lounge, several shops and a terrace on the roof are located. In the cinema predominantly films related to the TIFF events are shown. A collection of archived films, which is also available to the public, also serves for research and as a learning center. The galleries mainly display film material. This includes both current and historical materials. The gallery on the top floor is freely accessible to the public. Whereas the second and larger gallery in the lowest areas only offers paid tours. The first exhibition was from the Museum of Modern Art with a monograph by Tim Burton .
Festival Tower
The Festival Tower was built by Daniels Corporation. The building has 458 residential units on 42 floors. The residential building was built in collaboration with the Toronto International Film Festival Group and the King and John Festival Corporation. On August 2, 2011 at 7.30 p.m., glass elements from the 27th floor of the residential building came loose and fell into the depths. No one was injured in the incident.
