description

Vegetative characteristics

Gasteria pillansii grows without a trunk, is prostrate to upright and reaches a height of 5 to 20 centimeters. It sprouts from underground runners and forms dense groups with a diameter of 6 to 40 centimeters. The ribbon-shaped, upright or spreading leaves are arranged in two rows on the shoot. The spotted leaf blade is 2 to 10 inches long and 1.5 to 5 inches wide. It is covered with sunken warts arranged in indistinct diagonal stripes. The epidermis is rough. The cartilaginous leaf margin is warty or tiny notched. The tip of the leaf is bluntly rounded to pointed and has an attached tip.

Inflorescences and flowers

The spread and slightly curved inflorescence is a panicle . It reaches a length of 60 to 120 centimeters (rarely up to 165 centimeters). Occasionally there is a pair of side branches. The pink flower envelope is 25 to 50 millimeters long and has a diameter of 5 to 8 millimeters. Your indistinct bulbous part is spherical-ellipsoidal. It extends for about a third of the length of the perianth, or less. Above the ovary it is constricted into a white, green-striped tube. The stamens do not protrude or protrude up to 5 millimeters from the flower envelope.

Fruits and seeds

The elongated fruits are 15 to 23 millimeters long and 7 millimeters wide. They contain seeds 4 to 5 millimeters long and 2.5 millimeters wide .
