The mission TIMED ( english T hermosphere I onosphere M esosphere E nergetics and D ynamics) is a project to the dynamics in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere of the Earth's atmosphere to study.

The 660 kg satellite was launched with Jason 1 aboard a Delta 7920 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on December 7, 2001. The mission was planned for a length of two years, but was extended several times, most recently in October 2010 through 2014. The project is funded and managed by NASA , whereas the satellite is designed and designed by the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland was built.
