TOPCASED ( T oolkit in Op en Source for C ritical A pplications & S yst e ms D evelopment ; German open source tool collection for the development of critical applications and systems ) is a CAE tool .
As an IDE, it uses the infrastructure of the Eclipse development platform for requirements acquisition, requirements analysis , modeling, simulation , implementation , testing, validation , for reverse engineering and project management of complex, safety-critical real - time systems from hardware and software in the aerospace , vehicle construction ( automotive ) and similarly sophisticated technical systems in the Systems Engineering category .
Initially, the Unified Modeling Language (UML) of the Object Management Group (OMG) is supported as a standardized method and language for modeling software and other systems ; later, further model-driven ( MDE / MDA ) modeling methods and languages are to be added, for example Eclipse's own metamodeling language Ecore , the Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and the Architecture Analysis and Design Language (AADL), a language for describing the system and software architecture of real-time systems. Other modeling methods should be easy to integrate. In addition, the CAE tool collection (IDE) is to be supplemented with simulators, tools for testing the models, tools for configuration, change and requirements management as well as code, test and documentation generators.
TOPCASED is no longer being developed. Instead, Papyrus (UML) from the same manufacturer is recommended.
